Dr. Jawahar
Dr Jawahar qualified in Madras Medical College and moved to UK in 1975. He is the first Tamil GP in Leicester started working at Belgrave road surgery (now Bobby's sweet shop) from 1970. For many years he, his friends and patients held regular Tamil events in Leicester. Dr Jawahar has been looking after many Tamil speaking patients in Leicestershire over the past 3 decades. He has not only helped patients but also fellow doctors from the subcontinent. He is also the Chairman of Leicester Asian Doctors Society His wife Saira, Managing Director of a Nursing home in Leicester. He has two children Daughter Mrs Mohana Terry is a Solicitor in New York. And his son Dr Kaanthan Jawahar is a Trainee psychiatrist at Nottingham.
Thirumalai
Mr. Thirumalai is from Tiruvannamalai, brought up in a humble agricultural family. After completing his Mechanical engineering diploma in India, he moved to UK and completed electrical and electronic engineering course. During his study in UK, he worked in his uncle Balakrishnan’s firm Beaumanor engineering Ltd. Following his uncle’s demise, he started managing the firm which employs 55 staff. In 2009, he started Balu auto components Pvt Ltd., in India to help members of his family/friend, employing 160 people. He has been pivotal in setting up Tamil school at Leicester which has helped more than 1000s students over last 15 years. He has also played his part in establishing local Murugan temple.
He along with other friends established Leicester Tamil Sangam which has grown to as we all know it today. He is blessed with a son who studies at Kings and a daughter studying at Leicester high.
