A place to meet Leicester Tamilians

The Leicester Tamil Sangam is an association that has been run for more than a decade. The chief purpose is to preserve and promote our rich Tamil heritage amongst the Tamil diaspora in the UK – and particularly in Leicester. There is quite a sizeable Tamil community in Leicester and the Tamil Sangam here serves to foster a greater understanding, friendship, goodwill and appreciation with the community at large in Leicester. Tamil is one of the oldest and classical languages in the world and is spoken by more than 60 million people in Tamil Nadu, a southern Indian state, amongst many other places outside India. The large Tamil diaspora across the world has a lot of successful people in different fields, some of whom are even heading multi-nationals which we are very proud of. The main purpose of the Leicester Tamil Sangam is to facilitate and foster interaction within the Tamil community in the East Midlands, uphold its values and culture and to promote the awareness of the breadth, depth, legacy and richness of Tamil culture and literature. The Association also strives to solicit, raise, and disburse funds and donations towards deserving charities, educational, cultural, and humanitarian organisations in need of funds either directly or in cooperation with other registered non-profit organisations in the UK and abroad.
